That 70's show

You must have heard this all over till now- if you haven’t, let me tell you- the seventies are back! As we all know fashion reinterprets itself every season, with different trends recycling themselves in different interpretations.

I am a crazy fan of Boho-chic, which is a sub influence of this trend. It is a style of female fashion drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences. Think Woodstock, think Abba- think absolute dressing Love <3

It’s easy, breezy and so convenient in the Indian summer to carry off a boho look. Also, it is super easy to spot these coordinates all over the city- in Sarojini, Zara, Janpath and what not. Here’s what I’ve planned to buy this summer to get the look!

Maxcolor

Vibrant shades of color are what you can expect this summer- with maxi dresses, fun jumpsuits and interesting skirts- don’t hide away in the white/black/gray noise. Speak up!

Pattern please

Skip to Boho chic J welcome to the world of prints. Tall/skinny girls don’t wear very intricate or small flowers- makes you look gigantic. Healthy girls, stick to the smaller florals- they look cute on you.

When shopping in janpath, experiment a little and get some interesting wrap dresses, sheer (translucent) maxi dresses (the dresses that come till your ankle) or cute tops. Florals also have an elegant look to them so you CAN WEAR THEM TO OFFICE- if paired with a classic jacket/vest.

Stars and stripes are back- do follow the rules though. No horizontal stripes if you’re short/ healthy. Make sure you don’t buy a very busy top with too many patterns- it confuses the eye.

My favorite pattern for this summer is hearts J it sounds super girly- yes I know. But if worn in faded colors or simple blues it could look very interesting. There are many patterns out there- polkas or stripes-whatever they are should talk about your style.

Flaring Fun

Believe it or not, the time has come when you’ll have to start saying bye bye to skinnies- I couldn’t be happier! Bell bottoms stand for free fabulous fun!

If you’re very short- make sure you don’t wear a big flare. Keep them straight and try dark shades with a solid color. The amount of flare can increase with an increase in your height.

Girls with big bottoms- these jeans will make you look amazing!

Girls with no bottoms- you can also try ‘boyfriend’ jeans which are loose fitted on the top but tighter till the ankle- these look great when paired up with an interesting belt. (look at the pants on the extreme right)

White rose
Think lace, romance, airy and fresh. White sheer kurtis/ long shirts will be a pleasure this summer- almost like a dream.

When you go to buy your favorite one- make sure you try it on because the silhouette should be to your liking. You must NOT compromise on the shape of this top- make sure it compliments you and your skin color.

The right white top can make all the difference in your wardrobe. Imagine just putting on a simple billowy top and basic jeans- HEAVEN J

Here’s a basic idea of what you can accessorize with

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it- there is alot to seventies fashion that I haven’t covered in detail- disco, jumpsuits, clogs and wedges. But I’m definitely in the mood for something simple- after wearing so many layers this winter, I’m ready to shed it all off for some airy comfort- what about you?

Classic meets thrift Pt 2

Hello J I’m back with 5 basic looks that you can pull off on a daily basis, with a simple pair of jeans. Keeping in mind this erratic weather, I think this post will definitely help you style up!

Wrap Nola Wrap

So we were all sitting in class one day and this classmate of mine entered with her stole nicely pinned up leaving her hands free but our eyes engaged! Inspired by Nola’s outfit that day, this is the easiest way of hiding your flaws (if any) or accentuating your curves.

STYLETIP: Use your favorite stole and wrap it around in such a way that it compliments your body and can be tied up with a pin/brooch.

Rockchic

A simple ganji/vest/fitted cotton tee paired with a dinner jacket is the easiest way to dress for a semiformal evening. But twist this look by adding some color and accessorise! Add a thin hooded jacket for some layering to add dimension.

Snip Snap

Take all those old sweaters of yours and edit them out- YES Im not kidding pick up a pair of scissors and get snipping. I cut the sleeves of this boring old hag of a sweater and now it looks so classy as a grey tunic over my jeans. PERFECT for covering my love handles (hehe)

STYLETIP: It is very very important to visit the tailor after you make these changes- get them stitched in a proper way and you have a new outfit altogether! Remember he’s just a walk away and will take max Rs. 20 for this job J

Boy meets girl

A crisp shirt and an oversized jacket. Get your hand on these two items and everything else is piece of cake. If you notice carefully- Ive mixed 3 different patterns in this look- that is not wrong/stupid/too much anymore. You can play around with colors and prints- REMEMEBER, they don’t need to match, they need to coordinate.

STYLETIP: Take your dad’s old cotton scarves and create interesting details- they can be a sash, a headband or a bow. Start tying them around! (ok don’t get crazy ideas here- I’m still referring to dressing up)

Out of bed into the night

Don’t feel like dressing up at all? Just put on that kurti you wouldn’t be caught dead in (yes the one your massi/mum/nani got you and you just wont take it out)

Add some style with your favorite dinner jacket- make it more YOU (pull up the sleeves, work with accessories) and you’re done. The easiest way to keep your family happy at a dinner- keeping messy halters/dresses out of the way while managing to look sexy!

Hope this post eased some of your spring/monsoon dressing trouble. Though the easiest way you can look ultra glam is to SMILE- Im sure you already know that J

Monsoon Dressing

Just when you thought that the winters were on their way out for airy spring to come in, all your ballerina dreams and lacey pumps go crashing down the drain thanks to the monsoons. I’m sure you are slumping at the idea of going out and wondering what you can do to make the most of these pleasant evenings in a city smothered with muck J

For starters- take out all your hand-me-downs, old pullovers and jewelry along with your faded jeans. Handpick important accessories or scarves that you’d like to carry and make your own coordinates. Footwear in the monsoons is MOST crucial. Wear shoes that you’re ready to get rid off- but make sure they go with your outfit!

STYLETIP: If you feel that the winters have added what we call ‘Love handles’ or ‘tyres’ to your figure, then make sure you wear a well-fitted vest/tshirt underneath with a easy flowing or lose pullover.

I’m a fan of short crop jackets- and this one from GROGGY is my absolute favorite. It accentuates your shoulders and works well for either very thin girls or girls with big hips- it takes away attention from those bottoms :P

These copper chappals are fondly referred to as ‘Mahabharat Chappals’ by my design school friends J they’re really old but super funky and I didn’t mind getting rid of them at the end of this season.

STYLETIP: Gone are the days when silver went with silver and not rust. You can mix and match your rust silver and gold jewelry for an interesting look. Make sure you keep both rusted- mixing these colors should also please the eye.

NEVER BLINDLY FOLLOW TRENDS- do what suits you J

In case you’re wondering, this girl is wearing JEGGINGS (Jeans+leggings) they were the coolest silhouette for winters and very soon they’ll be replaced by a summer trend that I’ll talk about TOMORROW.

Hope this one helped you out.

Classic meets thrift Pt 1

Its that time of the year again. You’re slyly looking at your summer clothes and wondering if you can start wearing them now on J After the heavy bulky months of winter, you’ve happily tranced into your soft light summer clothes- it’s the post valentines effect I’m guessing!

So I took out one of my summer dresses for a particular sunny afternoon- was going for lunch with my sweetheart.

Here’s a step-by-step description for you to make your summer outfit withstand the tipsy winter. Hope you like it!

To start off, I was feeling a little thin on the day, so I decided to put on a thin belt that I got as an add on to my ZARA pants.

Style tip: make sure you use your add on accessories wisely. If you get an additional bow or a sash with a top or lowers, mix it up with other clothes as well.

This beautiful short crop jacket is my best friend’s classic buy. When it comes to Sarojini shopping, Chandni’s got the best eye. She picks up the most chic things from a pile of dust. If you want tuitions, let me know, I’ll give you her no. Just a hint of accessories and chic- the dress looks like it was made to be worn in the winter.

Even though the accessories here are matching- that may not be the case always. Remember- it’s not important to MATCH, its rather more important to COORDINATE.

If I’d be feeling a little chubby on this day, I’d wear the dress with a casual sweater. You can let it hang by the side or just take a brooch/safety pin to wear it in a asymmetric manner.

There’s a very important lesson Ive learnt in the recent past- Pairing classics or high street ACCESSORIES with low street (Janpath/Sarojini) Coordinates turns the outfit into a very interesting high street look J

Jacket: Sarojini
